Recreation Park, Alloa

Alloa 2-2 Peterhead FT

The only game on in the country on the w/e of the 4/5 December 2010 between Alloa and Peterhead in the IRN-BRU SFL 2nd Division.

In an attempt to visit new grounds myself and another football mad fan Mark Sneddon went out to get our Saturday football fix so Alloa it was by process of elimination as all of the other games were off. We got on our connecting train to Alloa from Glasgow Queen Street Station and arrived in Alloa around 1'oclock so we could indulge in the delights of the Clackmannanshire town. To gain interest in the game we invested money in Peterhead at the local bookmakers at the great price of 3/1 who could turn down them odds.

With an hour and a half till the game started we stumbled across The Thistle and we ordered Braised Steak with all the trimmings we cleared the plates within minutes a real 10 out of 10 effort.

When entering Recreation Park you suddenly struck in the eye with the portable stand at the other side of the park where the Away support normally gather but on this occasion it wasn't needed as there was only around 15 Peterhead fans.

Hilton Road Stand similar to Hamilton Accies away stand.

When entering the ground to your right is an Iron sheeted stand called the Clackmannanshire Council stand where the home support gather and generate a small vocal support.

The main stand at Alloa you are charged another to gain entry but a good choice on a nippy day

Onto the game Peterhead set-up their stall quickly and raced to a 1-0 lead. Then 20 mins later Alloa brought it back to 1-1 on 44 mins Peterhead scored their second through my personal Man of the Match Clark. Straight after half-time Alloa were given a penalty by Referee Eddie Smith Alloa's star man Kevin McDonald stepped to take the spot-kick and was saved by Peterhead's GK Bateman. Then minutes to go Alloa were given another penalty by Official Smith and McDonald made amends and home support in raptures. Peterhead got across the line with a draw but only just.

Arctic Alloa v Polar Peterhead

The only football game in the land to survive Alloa Athletic v Peterhead. With near capacity crowd expected at Recreation Park this is where I'll be heading this weekend. Alloa Chairman Mike Mulraney is putting on special buses for Peterhead fans traveling by train. A great gesture by the club and in spirit of the game wishing for a cracker of a game with a great atmosphere expected.

Bellsdale Park (Beith Juniors 3 V 2 Troon FC)

Beith Belter

This NCA West Of Scotland tie was well worth the £5 entry fee. Beith were up 1-0 at half-time through John (JC) Craig. On 55 minutes Beith went 2-0 up through a John Craig free-kick and headed home from Marc (Skid) McShane. Troon then put a fight with Gary Wilson caught in two minds and Graeme Barbour delivered and slotted the ball home to make it 2-1. It was 2-2 within a matter of minutes when veteran Jonathan Baillie headed home. The match then became a scrappy affair with tackles flying in left, right and centre. Beith then got the vital winning goal through Kenny McLean who put a superb strike from distance past Troon keeper Johnston.

Beith progress into round 2 but Troon came close to upset Beith hearts.

Bellsdale Park (Beith Juniors V Troon FC)

This Saturday I will post my first ground report on this blog. The ground that I will be visiting is Bellsdale Park home of the Beith Juniors FC who will be playing Troon FC in the New Coins Automatics Cup West of Scotland 1st Round. Beith are sitting top of the Stagecoach West Of Scotland Premier Division and are current League Champions. Troon managed by Ayrshire Junior Football pundit John Redmond they play their League football in the Stagecoach Ayrshire District League and currently sitting in 11th place with 3 points. Beith look favourites but in all honesty Cup ties are tricky thing to predict. Beith went out at the first hurdle last season against Thorniewood United who never won a game before beating Beith so watch this space.
